Plows and shields, Wyoming looks to staff its highways

January 11, 2022

Businesses around the US have suffered from staffing issues for the greater part of 2021. The Wyoming Department of Transportation and the Wyoming Highway Patrol are facing their own frustrations meeting staffing requirements.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, WHP Lieutenant Erk Jorgensen told listeners that the Cowboy State is looking for temporary snow plow operators. The shortage is so severe, the WHP has been forced to close some of its busiest roadways multiple times this winter season.

The WHP isn’t without its own problems when it comes to manning the force. Although a class of potential troopers just began at the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy, Jorgensen said the highway patrol is still looking to fill empty slots.
