Buffalo Mayor Shane Schrader and the city’s new Chief of Police Sean Bissett recently appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program to talk about taking on the challenges of the Chief’s new position.
After the retirement of Buffalo’s former chief, Jason Carder, thirty-one candidates from as far as the Virgin Islands applied for the position, Schrader said.
Johnson County Attorney Tucker Ruby, former Buffalo Mayor Mike Johnson, Buffalo City Councilman John Camino and Schrader made up the selection committee that vetted the applications who ultimately decided to hire Bissett.
Originally from Maryland, Bissett has 22 years of law enforcement experience, including time spent as a detective in Baltimore.
Bissett told listeners that from a young age he knew that he wanted to be involved in law enforcement thanks in large part to the example of Bissett’s uncle who served as a Baltimore City Police Officer.
Although the new chief understands there are contrasts between Buffalo and Baltimore, he told listeners that police work, when done right, works in every community.
