2022 Wyoming Legislative Budget Session Set To Begin

February 13, 2022

Wyoming Legislators will spend four weeks trying to iron out the new two-year budget, figure out what changes, if any, need to be made to legislative border lines, and address whatever other issues they can get to.

The 2022 Wyoming Legislative Budget Session will begin Monday, February 14th at 10am in Cheyenne, with a joint session of the Senate and the House, as Governor Mark Gordon will deliver the state of the state address.

Once the new budget is figured out, it will go into effect on July 1st.

Redistricting is a topic that must be addressed once every 10 years, as a result of the new census numbers, and this year is that year.

New legislative boundaries will take effect January 1st of next year.

One of the issues to be discussed is will the Legislature stay in its current 60-30 format (60 representatives and 30 senators), or will it change to 62-31, thus creating two new house districts and one new senate district.

Any other issue to be addressed at the budget session requires a 2/3rds majority vote for introduction.

Various bills include raising the gas tax in order to provide more funding to WYDOT, allowing lottery scratch off tickets to provide funding for the state outdoor recreation department, prohibiting the release of mugshots unless the accused is convicted, and prohibiting those born as male, to participate in female sports.
