A sentencing hearing was recently held in Fourth Judicial District for a Sheridan woman charged with false swearing. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

Deferred Prosecution

On June 1, 2021, Sheridan County Assessor Paul Fall reported to the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office that 27-year-old Shaunelle Kelley had applied for and received her deceased father’s combat veteran tax exemption on vehicle registration for three consecutive years – 2019, 2020, and 2021. Kelley was charged with three felony counts of false swearing. Kelley, pursuant to terms of a plea agreement reached with the State, pleaded guilty to one of the charges and the other two charges were dismissed as part of the plea deal.

At a recent sentencing hearing, District Court Judge Darci Phillips accepted the terms of the plea agreement and sentenced Kelley to three years of supervised probation and entered into the court record a deferred prosecution.  Phillips also ordered Kelley to pay a total of $875 in court costs and public defender fees.
