Johnson County Fourth Annual Weed Pull Day and Weed Bounty Program

In a partnership with federal, state and local organizations, Johnson County is holding the Fourth Annual Weed Pull Day and Weed Bounty Program. 

This program promotes the pulling of invasive weeds from around Johnson County and pays participants for their efforts.  

One of the partners in the program, Game and Fish Public Information Specialist Christina Schmidt told listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program that invasive weeds are a major risk to the local ecosystem, their presence threatens ranchers and farmers as well.

Through the Weed Bounty Program, Johnson County Weed and Pest will pay $0.50 per pound for three species; spotted knapweed, houndstongue and mellein. Photos can be found online at the JC Weed and Pest webpage, here. This program begins on May 23, and concludes for the season on Aug. 12. Weighs-ins and payments can be made during regular business hours. 

Weed Pull Day will begin at 3 p.m. – 5 p.m., June 6. Participants are asked to meet at the pavilion by the Outdoor Pool in Buffalo.
