The Johnson County Cemetery District Board has appointed a sub-committee that will begin the process to build a cremains garden in the Willow Grove Cemetery.
Boardmember John Zorbas said he had looked into options for niche walls and found a company that manufactures them.
He said the cemetery district can purchase two smaller walls with 32 niches each for a total of 64 that would be significantly less expensive than their original plan for the garden.
Board member John Ehlers made a motion to move forward with the project.
The proposed project, according to discussions, will build a concrete foundation for the niche wall and construct a pathway to the garden, with room for future expansion.
The $75,000 for the project was set aside in their FY2023 budget.
