The Sheridan County Commission has approved and accepted an agreement with the State Lands and Investments, Forestry Division for funding on the USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Region 2022 Western States Wildland Urban Interface Grant.
County Administrative Director Renee Obermueller explained that the program is a 50/50 partnership with landowners for fire fuels mitiagtion on their properties.
The amount awarded is $80,000 but with the landowners’ 50% match, the funding will be $160,000 available through the term of the agreement, which runs through 2026.
She said the program has been popular in the past.
The county applied for funding and to expand the program this year to include the entire county.
