News – Sheridan Media

At 3:22 pm Wednesday, the Sheridan Police Department received a report of an individual who impersonated a law enforcement officer. The suspect, who is described as a white male approximately 50 years old, was driving a gray or silver GMC pickup when he flashed the vehicle’s headlights and manually motioned for a driver to pull over near the intersection of West Brundage Lane and Big Horn Avenue. The suspect had white hair and was wearing a ball cap. The suspect presented himself as a police lieutenant and presented some type of badge to the victim driver. The suspect gave the victim a verbal warning. The GMC pickup had four doors and a camper shell. The vehicle was described as being approximately ten years old. The front bumper was described as off-color as though it had been replaced due to body damage.

The Sheridan Police Department does have some unmarked vehicles in which officers may initiate traffic stops, however the unmarked vehicles are equipped with red and blue emergency lights, sirens and police radios. Officers will not waive at drivers or flash headlights to initiate a traffic stop. The SPD requests the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect and asks drivers to call 9-11 if they think a police impersonator is attempting to pull them over and to drive to a high visibility area for safety.
