Debt Ceiling Legislation

June 12, 2023

News – Sheridan Media

Congress recently passed legislation lifting the debt ceiling in a move to avoid the first ever default by the U.S. Treasury Department. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter recently spoke with U.S. Senator John Barrasson about the debt ceiling bill.

Debt Ceiling Legislation

On June 1, the U.S. Senate voted to approve legislation that suspends the government’s $31.4 trillion debt ceiling through January 1, 2025, allowing the U.S. Treasury to continue to borrow money and pay its bills. The measure was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives a day prior to the Senate vote. U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) talks about why he voted against the debt ceiling bill.
