Open Class Pie Contest Results

The open class pie contest occurred in the Exhibit Hall at the Sheridan Country Fairgrounds on Sunday, August 6th. Judging of the pies took place at 11:30 am. There were ten contestants, nine of which were adults and one youth. Pies that were entered into the event consisted of cherry pies, blueberry pie, apple pie, peanut butter pie, lemon meringue, and even a bourbon peach pie. There were three prizes in total, a $50 prize for first place in the adult category, as well as a $25 prize for second place. There was also a first-place reward for the youth category as well which was also $25. The rubric the judge used for grading the pie is pictured below.

The first-place winner for the adult bracket was awarded to Daisy Lemaster for her wonderfully constructed Cherry Pie pictured below.

Second place was awarded to Julianne Craft’s cherry apple pie.

The first-place award for the youth category went to a raspberry pie that was made by Marta Hamilton that involved a sourdough crust.

This family-friendly event takes place every year during the fair. The organizers would love to encourage more people to join next year and put their pie-baking creativity to the test.
