The Johnson County Commission has approved and accepted an agreement for body-worn cameras for the sheriff’s department for a total amount of $35,453.06 with a local match of $17,426.50.

Sheriff’s office employee Jennifer Jackson, who along with Erika McCarter applied for the grant, gave more details on the body-worn cameras.

According to bwctta.com, the Small, Rural, and Tribal (SRT) micro-grant program is funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) to provide funds and technical support to small, rural, and tribal agencies to implement body-worn cameras.

The sheriff’s department is waiting on a last-minute IT check for compatibility before they will make the purchase.

Deputy County Attorney Barry Crago has reviewed and approved the contract.
