During a Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee hearing titled, Stopping the Flow of Fentanyl: Public Awareness and Legislative Solutions, U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis spoke about the rapid increase of fentanyl overdoses in Wyoming. Lummis said that every state is a border state right now when it comes to fentanyl and the border crisis and failed policies at the border have contributed to the deaths of more than 73,000 Americans in 2022 due to fentanyl overdose. Lummis said fentanyl overdoses in Wyoming have gone up significantly in the last several years.

Others who testified at the hearing included Fraternal Order of Police National President Patrick Yoes, Retired DEA Special Operations Division Assistant Special Agent in Charge Christopher J. Urben and country music star and addiction recovery advocate Jason DeFord , better known as ‘Jelly Roll’.
