The Sheridan U19 Lady Hawks won their first A-level state championship with a 3-1 victory over Pinedale on Sunday at the M&M Center in Sheridan, Wyoming. This win is the first state championship for the Sheridan hockey program at an A level.
The path to the championship had its challenges, especially when the Hawks faced back-to-back penalties early into the first period, leaving them with fewer players on the ice. Pinedale scored first, adding pressure on Sheridan.
Despite the setback, the Hawks displayed their determination, outshooting Pinedale 19 to 4 in the first period. The tide began to turn when Alyssa Biteman, with an assist from Carsyn Thompson, netted a goal with less than two minutes remaining in the second period, making the score 1-1.
As the third period started with the score still tied, Sheridan intensified their efforts, maintaining a commanding lead in shots, 31 to Pinedale’s 9. Alyssa Biteman once again found the back of the net, giving the Hawks the lead. Shortly after, Mckenna Bales, with an assist from Willow Koltiska, extended the lead to 3-1, clinching the championship for Sheridan.
Winning the state championship on home ice made the win even more special, making it a significant moment for Hockey in Sheridan.
