The February meeting of the SCSD#3 School Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, Feb. 14, with several topics addressed by the board, including voting to close the Arvada School instead of continuing to mothball it. Trustees Deb Guyer and Trinity Lewis joined the board virtually.
The board reviewed several policies, and Chairman Wade Betz felt the board should set a schedule to review the policies. They discussed policy 2.2, Instruction, and they discussed the rating system used to track the students’ progress.
Superintendent Chase Christensen talked about state education standards, and the fact that SCSD#3 was above many of the state’s standards, and he talked about the graduation requirements for the district.
The board also discussed purchasing a new pickup with a snowplow for maintenance but made no decision on the purchase.
The board voted to accept the resignation of K-12 music teacher Dr. Gerry Chase and approved to advertise, interview and hire another music teacher for the 2024-25 year.
Several board members express gratitude for Dr. Chase’s contribution to the students.
Trustee Trinity Lewis added,
There was also talk about the district mental health initiative and the difference between a school counselor and other mental health professionals.
Christensen reported that the fuel depot is nearly ready with both diesel and gas for the buses and school vehicles. He also said that there will be bids let out to repair the heat exchange component in the boiler.
