Goose Creek Transit Fuel Contract Discussed at Council Study Session

A fuel contract was an item of discussion at Monday night’s study session of the Sheridan City Council. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

City Administrator Stu McRae presented usage numbers to the Mayor and City Council regarding Goose Creek Transit’s fixed bus route in Sheridan.

The contract that is being proposed is for the City to provide Goose Creek Transit $100,000 annually for fuel needed to operate the transit system. The contract would be from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2026. Councilors Greg Luhman and Kristen Jennings expressed varying opinions on the transit system and the service it provides.

The contract stipulates that the City and Goose Creek Transit shall collaborate and work together to evaluate the need for public transportation in Sheridan, identify cost saving measures and potential revenue sources.  In November of each year, Goose Creek shall present a status report to the Council at a regularly scheduled meeting. In March of each year, Goose Creek shall present to the Council at a regularly scheduled meeting proposed changes based on the collaborative work with the City. The proposed fuel contract is expected to be considered by the City Council at an upcoming business meeting.
