BW Creative returns to Sheridan as students perform dance created for them

The Arts at Sheridan College presents Where Substance Meets Air, a dance production of BW Creative at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 25, and at 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, in Kinnison Hall at the Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College.

Sheridan College Dance Instructor Stephanie Koltiska made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the special event.

According to the College, Welch’s creations explore themes of breath, grounded-ness, wholeness and momentum while incorporating floor work, partnering and inversions. Welch has returned to Sheridan, following a 2023 Ucross Artist Fellowship for his work with Helanius J. Wilkins.

Koltiska’s students have been rehearsing a performance created by Welch specifically for them. But, as Koltiska said, with the caveat to not rehearse too much, as he wishes each dance to be inspired, specific and singular to each performance.
