The Annual Trees for Trash free landfill day was held on Saturday, May 4 at the Sheridan City Landfill. Seliena Parker, Recycling and Solid Waste Coordinator, talked about this year’s event.

The event has been active in Sheridan for over 25 years. This year the seedling was a Colorado Blue Spruce. Parker said she had received feedback from several people who have said that the seedlings they received from Trees for Trash have survived and thrived.

Parker added:

The event was sponsored by Sheridan Media; Landon’s Greenhouse; Wyoming Corporate Office; ERA Carroll Realty, Co. Inc; and US Bank of Sheridan. There were bright green T-Shirts with a buffalo and the wording, Keep Sheridan Beautiful, as well as a list of the sponsors of the event.

It was open to both city and Sheridan County residents. Between 450 and 500 trees are given away each year in the program, depending on the year. Landon’s Greenhouse donates around 650 seedlings for the program. Trees that are not given away are donated to the city. “We always want to make sure we give life to all the trees,” Parker said.

She added that many volunteers helped out during the event, and she wants to send out a big Thank You to all who help to make ‘Trees for Trash” a success this year.
