At the May 14 board meeting of the SCSD#1 Board of Trustees, Fred Hollingshead gave a presentation about the Cowboy State Virtual Academy and the Bridge School in SCSD#1.

He added that over the last couple of years he has introduced the board to various families across the state that have a student enrolled in the academy. On Tuesday night, one parent joined via zoom, and Hollingshead’s wife also spoke about their daughter who is enrolled in the academy while she pursues her passion for theater.

Hollinghead said that sometimes students enroll because they want to do something else with their time, such as work at a job, so they prefer to do virtual classes.

Several Big Horn School parents came to the meeting, and two spoke to the board, Meredith Groshart, and Nick Zent.

Groshart said she was an advocate for teachers, and talked about SCSD#1 losing three administrators, Al Sparkman, Colby Lynch and Kathy Powers, and she talked about a meeting she had with Superintendent Jones recently

Mike Daley will be the interim principal at Big Horn High School until a replacement for Sparkman can be hired.

Zent talked about Powers and Sparkman, saying he had a sense of gratitude and appreciation.

He added the Mike Daley is “100% Big Horn and he has my full support.”

In his student representative report, Isaac Adsit of Big Horn High School talked about the ACT test scores in Big Horn.

Board Chairman Clint Krumm presented Adsit with a token of the board’s appreciation for being the student representative for the past year.

In his superintendent’s report, Dr. Jones talked about recognizing the teachers and staff in SCSD#1.

In other business, the board approved the safe return to in-person instruction plan that has to be updated every six months since Covid.

Next meeting will be on June 18 at 6 p.m. at the Central Office in Ranchester.
