According to the Wyoming Shrine Bowl, it was in 1973 when two Wyoming High School football coaches, Jerry Overton of Kelly Walsh High School, and Denny Brown of Byron High School started organizing an all star football game with the teams rosters being made up from Wyoming high school players who were graduates of the current year.
Now in its 51st year, the Wyoming Shrine Bowl provides the Cowboy State’s high school all star game. The game divides Wyoming north and south. Thirty-six players from northern Wyoming will compete against 36 players from the southern part of the state.
The game gives student athletes an opportunity to play in a large state game that honors the sport all while raising funds for the Kalif Shriners number one cause, children’s hospitals.
Former Potentate of the Sheridan Kalif Shriners and current president of Wyoming Shrine Bowl board Mike Malone told listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse the first few games took place on the University of Wyoming’s field.

Board member and Kalif Shriner Otto Schwartz said there will be tailgate parties and merchandise celebrating the game.

The game will begin at 2 p.m., June 8, at the Natrona County High School in Casper.
