The President of an organization for those who have or had family members that served in war, was in Sheridan County to see how people support their veterans.

Brenda Bryant is the VFW Auxiliary National President.

Part of her job during her one-year term is to visit an area within each US State, to learn and report back on what’s being done.

On her visit to Wyoming on Monday (September 30th), she was in Sheridan County where she visited the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument near the Sheridan County YMCA.

Part of the original plan was to visit the Veterans Memorial Wall in front of Tongue River Middle School in Ranchester and to meet the students who came up with the idea for the wall, but due to the danger posed by the Elk Fire, that part of the trip had to be canceled.

Bryant explains what she hopes to accomplish through her tour of the US.

“We’re an organization that due to dwindling wars, we don’t have as many members as we once had, so the main thing that I want to accomplish is to organize us, so that we can keep going into the future. If we don’t have members, if we don’t have those people that are willing to speak out for our veterans, those benefits that they deserve, that they earned, while they were in the service will go away.”

Bryant adds Wyoming was state number 16 in her 50 state trip.

Later this week, she will visit Oregon and Alaska.
