Sheridan Memorial Hospital Addiction and Internal Medicine Clinic Dr. Jason Ackerman made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss addiction and services provided by his clinic.
According to Ackerman, his office sees an increase in patients during the winter season and holidays. Ackerman heads the Sheridan Memorial Hospital Addiction and Internal Medicine Clinic. He and his team provide hope and healing for patients suffering from substance abuse and addiction issues. The clinic provides care and medical treatment for patients experiencing opiate/narcotic/methamphetamine addiction, stimulant and alcohol abuse, tobacco, gambling, and other addiction issues.
In many instances, one may not even realize they are suffering from an addiction. In some cases, the realization that one is suffering from addiction may not be enough to motivate them to overcome the stigma and seek help. But Ackerman said the medical community has a new understanding of addiction as a serious medical disease, which may help more people to seek the many services and new options available to help them.

Ackerman said the development of the SMH Behavioral Health Unit to provide the community with mental health services will also expand on the current level of care his office is providing. Expected to begin caring for patients early 2027, the SMH Behavioral Health Unit will offer outpatient psychiatric care, acute crisis stabilization and inpatient psychiatric treatment to ensure members of the community can receive mental healthcare in Sheridan. This new unit will work hand in hand with the services provided by the Addiction and Internal Medicine Clinic.

With the attitude and stigma of addiction slowly changing course, Dr. Ackerman is optimistic that those who suffer from addictions take the hardest step by walking through the doors of his clinic and begin the journey of recovery under the guidance of medical professionals who treat addiction for the disease it is.
