Sheridan Parks Director recommends holding off on the water

News – Sheridan Media

City of Sheridan Parks Director Steve Gage made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to share some advice regarding lawns.

Many residents may be excited to fill the lines and begin watering their grass to ensure a green healthy lawn in time for summer. But Gage said to hold off on putting any water on your lawn.

Gage said the grass needs a little challenge. This leads to the roots growing downward in search of more moisture.

Gage said watering in the early morning is best, when the sun is not high in the sky which risks evaporation. The goal is to allow the water time to soak into the soil.

Gage has been working with the City’s parks for 15 years beginning as the Parks Supervisor until Parks became its own department for the City just three years ago.
