On April 16, The Brinton Museum announced the retirement of longtime curator Barb McNab after 11½ years of dedicated service. Barb has made a significant impact on the museum through her thoughtful curatorial work, deep knowledge of Western art, and unwavering commitment to sharing the museum’s collections and stories with the public.

Barb joined The Brinton Museum in early 2014 and quickly became a vital part of the institution’s curatorial team. Over the years, her careful stewardship of the museum’s exhibitions has helped elevate The Brinton’s reputation as a leading center for Western and American Indian art and culture. Her collaborative spirit, attention to detail, and genuine enthusiasm for the work have enriched the experience of visitors, staff, and artists alike.

“While we are sad to see Barb step back, we are deeply grateful for the time, energy, and thoughtfulness she has poured into her work,” said Kendra Heimbuck, Executive Director. “Her dedication to the museum and her careful, measured approach to curatorial projects have left a lasting legacy.”

Barb will remain in her full-time role through May 20, 2025, and then transition to a part-time capacity for the remainder of the calendar year to support a smooth handoff and continued momentum. Her continued presence during this time will be invaluable as the museum evaluates its curatorial structure and begins the process of recruiting her successor.

Barb reflects on her time at The Brinton as an “amazing journey,” one enriched by the community, landscape, and cultural experiences she embraced fully during her tenure. “I believe a force greater than me led me to Wyoming. The Brinton Museum, the land, and the mountains are nothing short of magical. Getting to know the people in the community has been my greatest joy.”

From curating major exhibitions to working with the museum’s American Indian Advisory Council, Barb’s leadership and presence have shaped The Brinton Museum in profound ways. The Brinton Museum looks forward to celebrating Barb’s career and contributions in the coming months and wishes her the very best as she embarks on this new chapter.
