Arraignment proceedings in Fourth Judicial District Court were recently temporarily suspended for Robert Swaney of Sheridan. Swaney, on April 6, was arrested for burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary for allegedly stealing items from a number of vehicles in Sheridan. Both of the charges are felonies each punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Swaney was also charged with misdemeanor interference with a peace officer, which is punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000,
The suspension of the arraignment hearing was requested by Swaney’s Attorney Tonia Klepperich due to competency issues with her client. District Court Judge Darci Phillips said that a competency evaluation will be performed by the Wyoming State Hospital. Once the Court receives the results of the evaluation, a date for an arraignment hearing will be set.
According to court documents, Swaney, along with two other individuals allegedly stole items from unlocked vehicles during the early morning hours of April 6. Vehicles were broken into on 5th, 6th and 7th streets, and in the area of Sheridan Junior High School.
