At the Wednesday, June 11 SCSD#3 monthly board meeting, one community member, Jeff Carmichael, spoke to the board about the concealed carry policy. He said that, as he understands it, the board was going to discuss making it possible for staff and teachers to take the training certified to carry concealed firearms.

Superintendent Chase Christensen said that no one signed up to address the board on-line.

Christensen added that the legislation opens the door to concealed carry to everyone. The school staff would not be allowed to ask questions as to whether or not someone does have a concealed carry permit. They are not allowed by the law to restrict any parent to carry.

Carmichael said he appreciated the district for being pro-active on this topic.

Several policies, the district leave policy, employee insurance, and district goals were reviewed.

The board approved a request for bids to replace the roof on the elementary wing of the school; the compensation package for the superintendent; offering a 4% bonus to all staff who finished the 2024-2025 contract year and approved for repairs on the HVAC system.

There was a lengthy discussion about painting the gym, with several board members feeling that the ‘House’ shields should be banners, not painted on the wall.

Activities Director Jennifer Betz joined via zoom, about painting the gym. She said she had talked to students about the house system,

She added that the sports banners would be for each of the sports the school offers, track, volleyball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, but not every sport that Clearmont co-ops with other schools.

Betz talked about what events would be included on the banners.

The board voted to approve the gym painting as presented.

The board moved to go into executive session to discuss out-of-district student data and the offer for the Arvada School property.
