Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns (HHEB) will take part in Habitat for Humanity International’s inaugural Rural Rally, a nationwide initiative highlighting the need for affordable housing in rural regions of the U.S.
The Rural Rally launches this fall as a companion to the 39th annual Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project, Habitat’s build honoring the Carters’ decades of service. While the Carter Work Project will bring thousands of volunteers to Austin, Texas, to construct 25 homes, the Rural Rally will extend the effort to more than 60 rural communities across at least 20 states.
In northern Wyoming, Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns will host a special event on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Weston Village. Executive Director Christine Dieterich said participating in the Rural Rally is both an honor and a chance to shine a light on the housing challenges facing smaller communities and the work underway at Weston Village.

According to Habitat, nationally, one in four rural households spend more than 30% of their monthly income on housing. Habitat leaders say the Rural Rally aims to bring more attention to those families while showing how local affiliates can help.
