Buffalo Mayor urges applicants to keep One Percent on the front burner

November 20, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

City of Buffalo Mayor Shane Schrader is urging applicants to begin thinking about Buffalo’s One Percent Funds.

Generated from the 1% optional sales tax collected by the city and county, interested entities can apply for funding by submitting an application to the Johnson County Commissioners Office or Buffalo City Hall.

The 1% Optional Sales Tax Committee, made up of members from the community, reviews the applications and makes recommendations to the city and the county for which entities to fund.

Although this process will not begin until the the initial weeks of 2026, Schrader urged organizations who wish to apply for those funds to begin their internal procedures for applications.

The final decisions on allocations are made by the Buffalo City Council and Johnson County Commission, typically during their annual budget sessions in the spring.
