The local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, NAMI Sheridan, is dedicated to supporting volunteer leaders as they raise awareness about mental health conditions and provide local education, support groups, and community education for those living with mental challenges and the loved ones who care for them. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has more.

We reported in a previous story that NAMI Sheridan provides various mental health support groups to those in need in the community. General Purpose Excise Tax funds that NAMI Sheridan receives from the City of Sheridan are primarily used for their therapeutic support groups. NAMI Board Vice-Chair Terri Markham says they offer three therapeutic support groups.

Markham talks about the third, and newest therapeutic support group.

Markham said what they hope to do with support groups is continue to meet the need and launch more groups on different specialized topics as they are able to. NAMI Sheridan also offers educational workshops, which will hear more about in a future story.
