Wyoming Community Foundation Associate Director of Donor Stewardship Salvador Madrigal made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to speak on the Foundation’s “5 to Thrive” initiative, encouraging Wyoming residents to commit 5% of their estate to charitable causes that benefit their local communities.

Since 1989, the Wyoming Community Foundation’s mission has been to help strengthen nonprofit organizations and community programs across the Cowboy State. The 5 to Thrive initiative is designed to inspire residents in Wyoming to contribute 5% toward a cause they believe in as significant wealth transfers from one generation to the next.

According to Madrigal, the effort is driven by research showing that approximately $24 billion in wealth is expected to transfer between generations in Wyoming over the coming decade. By encouraging residents to designate just 5% of those assets for charitable purposes through estate planning, the initiative aims to keep a portion of that wealth invested in Wyoming communities through permanent charitable funds.

Through 5 to Thrive, individuals can support causes they believe in and wish to support such as education, conservation, youth programs, libraries, health services and other community needs by including charitable gifts in wills, trusts or retirement accounts.

The Wyoming Community Foundation works with donors, advisors and localized community boards to help direct those future gifts toward projects that support long term community development in local areas and across the state according to the donor’s wishes.
