Sheridan Advocacy and Resource Center Assistant Director and Victim Witness Coordinator Rhonda Weber made an appearance on Public Pulse to discuss Sexual Assault Awareness Month with a series of community events aimed at education, prevention and survivor support.

Observed throughout the month of April, Sexual Assualt Awareness Month 2026 will reflect on 25 years of action and progress toward ending sexual assault, abuse, and harassment. The 2026 theme, “25 Years Stronger: Looking Back, Moving Forward,” celebrates the resilience of survivors and the communities that have worked for change.

Weber said the events in April are designed to engage the community, encourage conversations and provide resources while supporting ongoing services for survivors in Sheridan County. Becoming involved can be as simple as sharing social media posts to help get the word out and spark conversations regarding sexual assault and providing resources to any who may need them.

Weber said the organization has planned several smaller events as well. On top of the Day of Action on April 7, a Flash Tattoo fundraiser will be held at Black Moon Arts on April 25 and Denim Day on April 29, which raises awareness through a globally recognized campaign supporting survivors.

In addition, Java Moon will feature a specialty drink for the month of April, called the “No Pressure Refresher,” with proceeds from its purchase benefiting SARC.

Weber closed by urging those in the public to believe victims, listen rather than feel you need to take action if someone trusts you enough to tell you their story.
