A team led by researcher Todd Surovell from the University of Wyoming and Juan Luis Garcia has found evidence to suggest an archaeological site in South America is not as old as previously thought, which may indicate the time frame on human activity may need to be adjusted.
UW Marketing and Communications and Public Relations Director Chad Baldwin, a recently a guest on our talk show Public Pulse, discussed what the researchers discovered at the site.
Baldwin said the research team studied the strata, or soil layers at the site to determine its age, drawing the conclusion it was far younger than previously thought.
Baldwin said the research and conclusion have sparked debate in archaeological circles, but the research is sound and has been published in the Journal of Science.
