Wyoming’s population is not increasing as much as the rest of the US, but the eastern part of the Cowboy State is seeing its numbers go up.
According to the latest population estimate from the Wyoming Economic Analysis Division, between July 1st 2024 to July 1st 2025, the state’s population increased to 588,753 residents.
That’s an increase of 2,031 residents, or 0.3%, compared to the same time frame from 2023 to 2024, but the rate is down from 0.4% from 1 year prior.
The growth rate for the US was at 0.5%, which is down from 1.0%, 1 year ago.
Sheridan County saw an estimated increase of 308 residents, or a 0.9% increase, and the estimated population as of July 1st, 2025 is at 33,241 vs. 32,933 previously.
The percent increase is the second biggest increase in the state for the second year in a row.
Only Laramie County had a bigger increase at 1.2%, which amounts to a numbers increase of more than 12-hundred
Johnson County’s numbers were up 79 residents, to a little more than 89-hundred, which is a 0.9% increase.
When the division puts together its estimates, natural change and net migration are the two factors used.
Natural change is the number of births minus the number of deaths, while net migration is the number of residents who moved in and out of each county, as well as in and out of the state.
Both Sheridan and Johnson Counties recorded more deaths than births during the last fiscal year, but net migration was able to counter those losses.
Between the time of the last US Census numbers as of April 1st, 2020, and July 1st 2025, Sheridan County has seen an estimated increase of more than 23-hundred residents, which is a 7.5% increase.
Wyoming’s estimated resident numbers are up by nearly 12-thousand since the last US Census.
