SCSD#1 Presents Teacher of Year and Apple Awards

On May 8, as a part of teacher appreciation week, SCSD#1 held their annual awards ceremony for teachers and staff. Starting the presentations Superintendent Dr. Jeff Jones thanked the staff members who helped to set up the event and welcomed those who attended.

He encouraged teachers to ‘hold on just a little bit longer. Our school year ends in just 11 days.’

The district first honored six retirees, teachers and staff.

Some had worked in the district for over 20 years.

Jones asked the attendees to stand if they had been working in the profession, even if not in SCSD#1, for ten, twenty, and up to 40 years. Two of those standing had worked for over 30 years in the education field.

After the retirees were honored, the district presented the Apple Awards.

Jones explained what they were presented for.

The District Apple Award went to Dr. Jamie Clifford. Jones he had many nominations, but Jamie had four times more nominations than any other nominee.

There was a Honorary Apple Award given to Steve Jones, a bus driver in SCSD#1, who passed away in March of this year.

Jeremy Smith, Business Manager, talked about Jones and how much his colleagues appreciated him.

Jones received a standing ovation, and his award was presented to his wife, Tina.

Seven teachers received teacher of the year awards from the two schools in the district, plus the Cowboy State Virtual Academy.

One teacher, Tina Melin was chosen as District Teacher of the Year. She had this to say,

Melin has also been nominated for the 2027 Wyoming Teacher of the Year.
