Buffalo Mayor Shane Schrader appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the Buffalo City Council’s approval of Resolution No. 1502.
The resolution approved placing a 1% specific purpose sales tax on the 2026 General Election ballot to help fund street maintenance in Buffalo.
Resolutions have been passed for three separate road and street projects in Johnson County, the City of Buffalo and the Town of Kaycee. If approved by Johnson County voters, the tax would sunset once the necessary funding is raised — approximately $5.7 million for the Buffalo project, approximately $5 million for the county project and approximately $280,000 for work in Kaycee.
The Buffalo project would replace water and sewer mains on North Burritt Avenue.

Buffalo voters have approved a similar tax in the past, which also was used to fund street maintenance.

In November, voters will see three separate propositions on the ballot and may choose which, if any, they support. Voters may approve one, two, three or none of the propositions. Each proposition includes a sunset provision.
