Photojournalist Clint Wood caught up with two of the more than 270 runners running in the Bighorn Trail Run’s 100-miler which started at the Tongue River Canyon in Dayton Friday, June 19, 2026.

T.J. Harms Synkien who was born in Cloquet, Minn., but lives in Colorado now, could not help but be noticed. His car was a few feet from the start line. He and his friend camped there the night before. He said he thought the start was a quarter mile away. They were awakened by music playing Friday morning.

This was his first time running in the Bighorns. He said he heard a lot of good comments about the race.

He is recovering from an injury he suffered in January, and he said the last few months, he hasn’t been running long distances.

Another runner who could not help being noticed was Jerry England, II wearing a Captain America shirt and red, white and blue cap with USA written on the side. He served as an electronics technician in the U.S. Navy for 22 years, retiring in 2023.

He said he acquires more patriotic attire every year. His first 100-mile race was in the San Diego 100 in 2010.

Bo Shelby, Denver, won the Bighorn Trail Run race in 17 hours, 58:03.62.
