During the course of Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28, the Sheridan Police Department Dispatch received several reports of a scam involving a Sgt. Wright. According to the SPD, Sgt. Wright is claiming to be a staff member of the SPD, and he was calling to inform the recipients that they had outstanding arrest warrants. Those targeted by the scam were asked to go to the police department to resolve the matter. There has been no monetary loss reported by those targeted by the scam.

The SPD encourages people to not engage with any unsolicited phone calls, as scammers will try every angle possible to fraudulently obtain money. Officer Shafer will provide fraud education and prevention upon request. If you are a victim of a scam and have sent money to a scammer, report it to the Sheridan Police Department immediately. Most scams often originate overseas, and the likelihood of recovering your money is very low. Before sending anyone money, discuss the matter with friends or family or call the SPD.
