Sheridan/Johnson County Unemployment Rates Decrease In May 2026

Unemployment rates for May in Sheridan and Johnson Counties are both below where they were during the same time frame last year.

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services says the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for May 2026 was at 3.4%, which is down from 3.5% in the month prior, but up from 3.2% in May of 2025.

The US Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for May was at 4.3%, which is unchanged from March and April, and unchanged compared to May of last year.

Rates in Sheridan County dropped from 2.8% in April to 2.5% in May, while Johnson County’s rate dropped from 2.7% to 2.4%.

Sheridan County’s new rate is below last year’s rate of 3.1%, while Johnson County’s new rate is lower than last year’s rate of 2.5%.

The Department says rates normally drop around this time of year, as the warmer days of late spring brings seasonal job gains in leisure and hospitality, government, construction, professional and business services, as well as retail trade.

The lowest unemployment rate in Wyoming for May was in Albany and Crook Counties at 2.3%, while the highest rate was in Niobrara County at 3.6%.

Non-farm employment in the Cowboy State increased by 1,100 jobs from May to May.
