Buffalo and Johnson County have a lot of history.
As a part of Buffalo’s Red, White and West 250 celebration on July 4, there was a ribbon cutting ceremony and the unveiling of signs along the new Johnson County History Walk.

Johnson County Commissioner’s Assistant Kristen Kenyon was the ‘Yankee MC”
She recognized the members of theSemiquincentennial committee, saying

She added about Buffalo’s history.
Kenyon then introduced Bill Novotny, Chairman of the Johnson County Commissioners, saying he had served as chairman since 2016 providing steady and thoughtful leadership for Johnson County.

Novotny also talked about Kaycee, calling it, “The best little town in Southern Johnson County. The home of outlaws and inlaws and a country music star named Chris Ledoux. We love you Kaycee.”
He ended with this, “May God continue to bless you and this country, and may God Bless Johnson County.”
After Novotny’s remarks, Kenyon introduced President Candice Christensen of the Johnson County Chamber of Commerce to perform the ribbon cutting.
Kenyon then introduced Mayor Shane Schrader.

He thanked the chamber and all those who donated several hours to make the celebration successful.

Mayor Schrader talked about the Native American tribes that once roamed the land. He then talked about the sheepherders, the ranches, the outlaws and Portuguese Philips and other historical figures in Buffalo.
Visitors are invited to check out the trail and scan the QR codes on the signs to learn more about Buffalo and Johnson County History.

As a way of celebrating the 250 Anniversary of the United States, there were presentations by the American Legion, including a reading of the Declaration of Independence, a Historical Flag Presentation, and a flag folding ceremony. The Buffalo High School Choir sang, God Bless America, and there was a ‘Stars and Stripes West’ Concert in Prosinski Park after the ceremony.
