A 36-year-old man who is an illegal immigrant pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge at an arraignment hearing this week in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
An investigation by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine in Sheridan County led to the arrest of 36-year-old Ismael Gonzalez Paz for conspiring to deliver methamphetamine to persons known and unknown in the Sheridan area. The criminal conduct occurred between June and December of 2025. Gonzalez Paz, at a hearing in District Court Tuesday, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
The guilty plea was part of a plea agreement reached between the defendant and the State. The State is recommending a 1 ½ to 3 years in prison, suspended in favor of time served since his arrest to the date of sentencing and one day of unsupervised probation. Sheridan County Attorney Dianna Bennett said the plea deal was made because there is an ICE hold on Gonzalez Paz and he will face deportation once he is sentenced. District Court Judge Darci Phillips ordered that a presentence investigation report be completed by the Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole and scheduled sentencing for October 8 at 9 am. Gonzalez Paz’s bond was revoked and he was remanded to the custody of the Sheridan County Detention Center pending sentencing.
