The Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Hot Springs State Park and community organizations have announced a Kids Outdoor Day event on Saturday, Aug. 29 in Thermopolis. The event is free and open to the public and no pre-registration is required.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for kids and families to explore the outdoors, have fun and gain new outdoor skills,” Game and Fish Information and Education Specialist Tara Hodges said. “Throughout the day, families will have the opportunity to visit a wide variety of hands-on learning stations designed to enhance outdoor skills and knowledge.”
According to the Game and Fish, participants can practice bear spray on a “robo-bear,” learn about owls by meeting Jupiter the great horned owl, paddleboard or kayak on the Cooling Pond, take a guided mountain bike ride or birding walk, practice archery, shoot air rifles, learn about macroinvertebrates and bison, and much more.
The registration booth, located at the pavilion, opens at 9 a.m., and activities will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Activities are designed for families and kids ages 6 and up, and a parent or chaperone must accompany youth.
Participants can come anytime during open hours. Most activities rotate every half hour, and families are free to choose the activities they are most interested in. An activity map will be provided at the registration booth.
