Wyoming Highway Patrol Captain Erik Jorgensen urged visitors to leave their marijuana at home.
Wyoming is bordered by states with varying marijuana laws. Montana allows both recreational and medical marijuana use for adults 21 and older. Utah, Nebraska and South Dakota permit marijuana only for limited medical use, while Idaho prohibits both recreational and medical marijuana.
Marijuana remains illegal in Wyoming. The state does not allow recreational or medical marijuana and continues to classify it as a Schedule I controlled substance under state law.

Despite marijuana being legal in many states, the black market for large quantities has not dwindled. Jorgensen said troopers are finding that the reasons people transport large amounts of marijuana illegally have changed as neighboring states have legalized its use.
