The Sheridan County 250 Committee is inviting residents to help preserve a snapshot of everyday life in Sheridan County through a community time capsule project celebrating America’s Semiquincentennial. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
The project aims to capture what life is like in Sheridan County in 2026 and preserve it for future generations. Instead of a collection of historical artifacts, the time capsule is intended to document the present, including the everyday objects, traditions, places, experiences and community life that help define Sheridan County today. Items that may seem ordinary now, could provide future generations with a meaningful glimpse into what life was like in Sheridan County in 2026. Sheridan Mayor Rich Bridger.
Any Sheridan County resident is invited to submit an item for inclusion. Residents can submit their ideas through the online submission form that can be accessed here. Submissions must be received by October 30, 2026. The submission form provides additional information on eligible items and the selection process. A public time capsule filling ceremony will take place in December 2026, with the date and additional details to be announced.
Following the ceremony, the completed time capsule will be buried in 2027, once conditions allow, on the lawn of the Sheridan Fulmer Public Library. The time capsule is planned to be opened in 2076, 50 years after its creation.
