Sheridan County Man Arraigned for Felony Blackmail

On August 30, 2026, 61-year-old Scotty Bailey was arrested for threatening to blackmail his half-sister if she didn’t give him some of their deceased father’s ashes. Bailey, at a recent arraignment hearing in Fourth Judicial District Court, pleaded not guilty to two counts of felony blackmail. One count is for threatening the victim with bodily harm and the other count is for threatening to accuse the victim of an alleged childhood sex act if she did not give him his father’s ashes.

District Court Judge Darci Phillips scheduled a two-day jury trial for February 22, 2027. A pretrial conference will be held January 21 at 11 am. Bailey’s bond was continued under the same terms and conditions that were previously set in Circuit Court. Each of the two blackmail charges are felonies punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
