A sentencing hearing was held Tuesday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for a convicted violent felon. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on March 2, 2026, a trooper with the Wyoming Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop on Highland Avenue near the intersection of West 5th Street. 20-year-old Ranal Crable was a passenger in the backseat of the vehicle and was in possession of a firearm. Crable gave the trooper a false ID and was arrested for felony possession of a firearm by a violent felon, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance – marijuana, and misdemeanor interference with a peace officer.
Crable, at Tuesday’s sentencing hearing in District Court, received 2 to 3 years in prison for the firearm charge and 180 days in jail for each of the two misdemeanor charges. The sentences will run concurrent to one another. District Court Judge Darci Phillips ordered Crable to pay $525 in court costs and assessments. He received 233 days of credit for time served of presentence confinement that will be applied to his prison sentence. Crable was prosecuted as a violent felon because he was convicted on December 16, 2025 in Madison County, Montana for assault with a weapon. He will be held at the Sheridan County Detention Center pending his transfer to a location to be determined by the Wyoming Department of Corrections.
