Court Accepts Plea Agreement for Man Charged With Strangulation
In July of last year, Jordan Wathen was arrested and charged with one count of felony strangulation of a household member and one count of misdemeanor interference with an emergency call. According to court documents, Wathen was arrested after law enforcement responded to a 911 hang-up and domestic dispute where Wathen allegedly prevented the victim from calling 911 by breaking the individual’s phone. Pursuant to terms of a plea agreement reached with the State, Wathen at a hearing in October, pleaded “no contest” to the strangulation charge.
District Court Judge William Edelman, at a hearing Tuesday, accepted the terms of the plea agreement and sentenced Wathen to 4 to 6 years in prison, suspended in lieu of three years of supervised probation. Wathen received credit for 145 days of time served and was ordered to pay $440 in various court costs and $750 in attorney fees.
