The Buffalo Amateur Radio Klub (BARK) has been instrumental in bringing a new radio repeater to Buffalo to aid in communications by both the general public and emergency services.
Robert Garrison, with BARK, spoke to the city council to explain the project and why it came about.
Garrison said there is a program called Neighborhood Radio Watch which is a system designed to be used for the general public to get messages to emergency responders in case of communications outages by phone or other means.
The repeater allows greater coverage in the Buffalo area to approximately 20 miles north of town on the Interstate to the end of the pavement on Trabing Road south of Buffalo.
For more information on the GMRS system or to get involved with BARK, contact them during their monthly meetings on the third Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion in Buffalo, or their weekly lunch group on Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. at the Breadboard in Buffalo.
