According to Whitney Benefits, for the past seven years, through the Legacy Grant, Whitney Benefits has been working with Sheridan College to help support recruiting efforts.
Through this effort, Sheridan College has announced the Bighorn Mountain Advantage. This new program allows out-of-state students to attend Sheridan College at an in-state rate as well as decreases on-campus housing costs for both full-time and part-time students.
Sheridan College Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs Micah Olsen said this program is a change in direction for the college, but has already begun to yield good numbers in recruiting.

Traditionally, tuition costs for out-of-state students was higher than that of students who resided in Wyoming. The Bighorn Mountain Advantage changes that to offer the same in-state cost to everyone. The move is in direct opposition to many other institutions of higher learning. As costs increase, other colleges and universities are raising prices. According to multiple sources, many colleges are increasing tuition prices for the 2025-2026 academic year, with some elite institutions seeing tuition hikes of 4% or more.
The approach by Sheridan College to offer in-state tuition prices and reduced costs of living on campus for both full and part-time students is a strategy to not only bolster admission numbers, but to spur the local economy with qualified workers for the Cowboy State.
