Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez appeared on Public Pulse to alert the public about a familiar scam that’s resurfacing in Sheridan County.

A sophisticated scheme involving fraudulent websites is targeting online shoppers. The sites advertise everything from large boats to basic gardening tools — but they’re a front for theft. According to Sheriff Dominguez, this is not a new tactic.

The Sheriff explained that some of these scammers go as far as cloning legitimate businesses to confuse potential buyers. When authorities begin investigating, the scammers simply shift their fake operations to new regions.

To avoid becoming a victim, Sheriff Dominguez warns residents to beware of deals that seem “too good to be true,” avoid unfamiliar or suspicious websites, and stick with reputable, established retailers.

He also recommends that online shoppers contact the law enforcement agency in the area where the seller claims to be based. Local officers may already have reports on the business and can help determine whether it’s legitimate.

If you feel you have been scammed, or have discovered a new scam, report your experience to the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office at 307-672-3455.
