The search for a missing Minnesota man who climbed Cloud Peak in the Bighorn Mountains continues.
Grant Gardner last made contact with his wife on July 29th and hasn’t been heard from since.
The Bighorn County Wyoming Sheriff’s Office says the command trailer at the West Ten Sleep Trailhead is temporarily not manned and command operations have been moved to the Greybull airport.
Volunteers have helped with the search, however due to liability issues, they can’t be paired with active Search and Rescue groups.
Since the search is on public land, permission is not required in any particular area.
Those who want to help and are familiar with the territory are asked to advise the Sheriff’s Office of their plans before departing.
Anyone unfamiliar with the area is asked to not get involved.
The area is unforgiving and anyone who enters it does so at their own liability/risk.
The Cloud Peak Wilderness is deceptively expansive, remote, and snow is starting to fall at higher elevations above 10,000 feet.
Very thorough searches of these areas have been performed.
The Sheriff’s Office says Mr. Gardner could plausibly be in several areas and routes, all of which have been extensively searched.
Types of searches performed thus far include use of camera drones, helicopters, planes, dogs, and horse teams.
The Wyoming National Guard as well as Search and Rescue teams from 6 Northern Wyoming Counties have also been involved, plus the US Forest Service.
Anyone with any information about Mr. Gardner’s whereabouts, or can help with the search is asked to contact the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office at 307-568-2324.
