First Quarter 2025 numbers from the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services show that about half of Wyoming’s 23 counties saw an increase in employment compared to the same time last year, while the North-Central part of the state had mixed results.
The Research and Planning section of the Department, reports from first quarter 2024, to first quarter 2025, total employment in the Cowboy State increased 717 jobs, or 0.3%, while total payroll increased in 20 counties.
Employment rose in 12 of the state’s 23 counties, which included Sheridan County, but not Johnson County.
Sheridan County was up by 281 jobs, or 2.0%.
That percentage was the second biggest in the state, behind Big Horn County (4.2%).
The department adds employment in Sheridan County rose in local government (including public schools), as well as leisure & hospitality, retail trade, manufacturing, and professional & business services.
Payroll in Sheridan County was up $12.27 million, or 6.2%.
For the second quarter in a row, Johnson Counties’ employment numbers dropped.
In the first quarter of this year, numbers were down by 51 or 1.6%, but payroll was up $3.1 million or 8.4%, which was the highest percentage increase in the state.
Campbell County lost 453 jobs, or 1.8%, with more than 300 of those jobs in the mining industry.
